Cyr Designs, LLC was awarded a United States Patent for the Courtney Bed design and issued patent # 7,434,280 on June 16, 2008 allowing for protection against infringement. The Courtney Bed has some fairly unique design features that makes it different from other beds currently on the market. The top of the bed is completely open, giving children an ability to bounce up and down unrestricted. We find this activity has been beneficial for improving sensory problems our daughter Courtney has encountered. The soft-sided panels that make up the internal sleeping compartment are independent from one another and can be removed for cleaning or replacement. These sidewalls can also be detached if not needed, allowing the bed to be converted into a simple four-poster bed frame. The bottom rail system is designed to firmly surround the hospital bed mattress to discourage burrowing characteristics experienced by children with Special Needs.
